History
Baskin Robbins was created by Burt Baskin, a brother-in-law, and Irv Robbins. Both were ice cream lovers and started their careers together in 1945, and they shared a similar food philosophy and were dedicated to offering high-quality products.
By 1948, they had six stores between them.The duo merged forces in 1953 and rebranded all of their stores under the Baskin & Robbin’s brand.
They used pastel colours to recreate the carnival atmosphere, and this is also where the pink spoon was born. They have created over 1000 different flavours since the beginning of their company.
They had more than 400 stores in the US by the 1960s and were regularly awarded gold medals at state and county fairs for their quality products.
The company expanded internationally in the 1970s, opening stores worldwide, and there are now over 50 stores worldwide.
The chain has been through many ownership changes. However, it is now owned by Dunkin’ Brands Inc.
This partnership has resulted in some co-branding between Baskin & Robbins and the equally famous Dunkin’ Donuts.
Baskin and Robbin still set the foundation for all franchises, and they have 7,300 locations and are still the market leader in ice cream.
