P.F. Chang’s History 2022
P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Inc. manages and owns two restaurants that have an Asian specialization; P.F. Chang’s China Bistro and Pei Wei Asian Diner. P.F. Chang’s China Bistro was designed to provide an elegant casual dining concept.
In contrast, Pei Wei’s Asian Diner was developed to serve as a simple, quick concept. P.F. Chang’s China Bistro was established on July 20, 1993. The first P.F. Chang China Bistro restaurant was established in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1993.
The restaurant’s headquarters remain in Scottsdale. However, it is currently operated and owned by Centerbridge Partners, LP.
Names like P.F. Chang resulted from the combination of its founders’ names: Paul Fleming and Philip Chiang. Its name Chiang was changed to Chang to give the restaurant its name.
The lounge’s roots are in a similarly popular Chinese restaurant in the 1960s: The Mandarin. The Mandarin was run by Philip Chiang’s mother, Cecilia Chiang.
The 1970s were when Philip Chiang got involved in the business by aiding his mom in running the eatery at their Beverly Hills location.
Restaurant owner Paul Fleming came into the scene in the late 1990s, and in 1993 Fleming, together with Chiang, came up with P.F. Chang’s.
The company’s co-founders decided to open their second location at Newport Beach, California, in 1994.
Two additional sites were also opened in California within the following year. P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Inc. was registered as a Delaware company in January 1996.
Fleming and Chiang formed the company after acquiring the initial four restaurants. The company made its first public offer in December.
On January 2 January 2, 2012, the company operated 204 restaurants across 39 states across the United States. But on July 2 July 2, 2012, the company was purchased from Centerbridge Partners, LP, and was no longer traded on the stock exchanges.
The chain continues to expand globally and nationally. It has restaurants across the U.S., including, for example, Georgia, Florida, California, New York, Rhode Island, North Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Virginia.
There are currently 16 P.F. Chang locations outside of the United States. Examples of international locations are Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mexico, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
When the chain of restaurants grows, it will make sure that customers are given exemplary service.
Every location is typically run by an operating partner with up to four managers, a chef-partner, at minimum one sous chef, and around the 125 employees who work daily.
